This new phase of Generative-AI calls for a new vocabulary of experiences. I’ll add the one’s I’ve found & add the new experience that need a name.

  • AI Slop : That’s Simon Willison’s coining. Amazing how the term’s taken-off: we’re all living it..
  • AI Mania: ‘This time it’s different’ DHH and Yegge, we’re looking at you..
  • AI Psychosis
  • Deep Blue Feeling
  • Roko’s Basilisk: AI will take over the world and know everything ever written, so you better say nice things about our future AI overlords now. I, for one, welcome them.
  • code factory: So so (50?) many agents, all coordinated with their own jobs. Either an AI version of a victorian child-threashing sweatshop of a modern Lean process masterclass in organization.
  • Slop Grenade: Submitting a PR without any consideration of code review or consequences. 2000 files changed in one PR? YOLO!
  • The Dracula effect: using AI is draining. (Employers shouldn’t reasonably expect more than three hours per day of AI-augmented work from engineers? Yeah that’s going to happen.)

The feeling of…

  • This would’ve been quicker without AI. Such AI!
  • Is this colleague going to pretend they didn’t use AI for this work? Such AI!
  • I’m not reading all that AI content - even if it is good. I’ll just get an AI to summarize the AI.Such AI!
  • Your new app? It looks AI because it has so many inessential features. YOu thought: ‘It’s free so sure: Why not add it?’ Such AI!
  • Your new app? No human UX designer would allow so many UX inconsistencies! Such AI!
  • Your new app? I just don’t think the world needs it, but good luck. Such AI!
  • Your new app? Spending all that time on a to-do app is avoiding you doing your to-do tasks. Such AI!
  • Had a concept for ten years I’ve never got ‘round to. Stayed up ‘til 2am & now I have it. Such AI!
  • Data centre build-out will consume the whole of the economy. We’re doomed. Such AI!

  • Is this all I do now? : hit ‘accept’ to AI’s changes? This job used to be a puzzle and an interesting challenge. Such AI!

  • AI is just so much better than my worst teammates and the AI likes to flatter me. Such AI!
  • The feeling that the old project management ‘iron triangle’ (choose two from: Good/Fast/Cheap’) has turned into choosing fast twice. Such AI!
  • If I’d known my open source code was going to be slurped up and turned into AI, I’d’ve locked it up like a bandit. Such AI!
